Ice Exploration Continues Thanks to The Best Parents Ever!

We received this email from one of our Moms and we want to say "Kudos" to our parents for seeing the opportunity for further learning and taking advantage of it!

"I wanted to tell you that on Wednesday, on the way home, David and I made a "bet" about what would happen if we filled a glass bottle to the top, closed it tightly and left it in the cold. David had observed that water not only became solid but also "grew" in the process of freezing because his cardboard container's bottom "bulged"(!) since it was sitting in the squishy snow. I told him that my hypothesis was that the glass bottle would crack. He said that was crazy, that of course nothing would happen. If the bottle is closed tightly, the water will be kept away from the freezing cold! "It simply will stay water, mom!"

So  we filled a cleaned out glass jelly jar with water to the very top and closed it tighly with the screw on metal lid. This morning we were both surprised to find the top a foot away in the snow and the ice "heeping" at the top of the jar! The amazement in David's eyes was palpable.
